F/W 20/21: THE PEARL

This collection was inspired by the Vermeer painting, The Girl with the Pearl Earring. In this painting, it was created using many layers of paint to create a completed work of art. Thus, the collection showcases layered looks that can then create multiple different looks. I am also inspired by the aesthetic aspects within the painting including: the color scheme, gathering and pleating in the sitter's garments, the high contrast of the girl with the stark black background and the reflection in the pearl. This reflection invokes self-reflection. We as a society needs to reflect on how we are harming the environment and how we need to rethink and evaluate how we can change our habits to help Earth. The color palette is white, silver, warm brown, cherry red, burgundy, black, and cobalt blue. I utilize fabrics that are more environmentally friendly including organic cotton shirting, wool coating, silk satin, deadstock leather, and thrifted fabrics.
