F/W 21/22: AD ASTRA PER ASTRA

This 20 look collection is my love letter to Kansas and my life growing up on the family farm, a place that will always be my home. The family farm holds a special place in my heart, as I am the 5th generation to grow up in the small and humble white house that stands atop the hill overlooking the rest of the farm. This house is like a quilt, built by the hands of my ancestors to provide not only shelter but a place of comfort. Quilts also have a rich history in the culture of rural Kansas and tell the stories of the people who came before us.

The collection is designed in four segments. The first represents all the hard work from farmers and ranchers, where I up-cycled work jeans from farmers and ranchers in the Minneapolis community including my father and grandfather. The second represents the soil and pastures. Drawing from the how farmers work with the land to produce crops and the rancher grazes cattle. The third segment represents wheat harvest and the beauty of the wheat fields blowing in the wind. The last segment represents the comfort of home, through upcycled quilts.

This collection was shown at Kansas City Fashion Week, April 24, and the K-State Interior Design and Fashion Studies Showcase of Excellence, April 22.
